Jyväskylä Basketball Academy
Jyväskylä Basketball Academy (JBA) is an organisation that aims to help young basketball players to find their identity and reach their full potential both as basketball players and as human beings as a part of a collective community. We help student athletes to combine schoolwork and high-quality training in all phases of their studies. The goal of JBA is also trying to help young individuals to build their character, learning skills and self-awareness. We also assist them in study/career development and planning. JBA tries to assist all individuals in finding and unlocking their identity both as athletes an as human beings, based on the ideology of servant leadership and growth mindset thinking. JBA wants to enhance the awareness of the conjunction of learning and sports and the positive impacts of a holistic approach on coaching. JBA works in close co-operation together with Gradia Jyväskylä High School, University of Jyväskylä and JAMK University of Applied Sciences.
Currently JBA has teams in the following Finnish leagues: Men’s 1st division, Boys U19 1st division and Girls U19 1st division.
JBA organises a free of charge basketball school (Lauri Markkanen Basketball School) for 5-8-year-olds around the region of Central Finland, with approximately 500 participants yearly. In addition, JBA organises after school sports activities for children, and has done projects with their associate partners for example on enhancing movement and activity within schooldays and in the classrooms. JBA collaborates with various clubs in the Central Finland area, by organising coaching clinics for basketball coaches and educative seminars around different topics.
JBA also organizes various sports events every year: Lauri Markkanen Tournament (May), Jyväskylä Street Basket (August) & Kuortane Basketball Camp (June).
